You Have to See This Gigantic Wedding Cake Made by a Local Pastry Chef - It's 9 feet tall!

What is a wedding without the ceremonious cake-cutting at the reception? Well, one couple certainly knew it was a non-negotiable—in fact, they had one giant cake to get through.

Hailing from Australia, Tom and Jio Dasalla came home to the Philippines hoping for an unforgettable wedding. They held their reception at the Solaire Resort and Casino. And upon taking into account the grand size of the ballroom, the couple decided to have an elegant custom wedding cake to match the extravagance of the venue. Thankfully, Honey Glaze Cakes knew exactly what to do.

The result was a ginormous royal-themed Belgian chocolate cake that stood approximately nine feet tall. “It is our biggest cake so far in terms of width,” pastry chef Aileen Conde of Honey Glaze Cakes tells Preview.

Now you’re probably wondering, with a cake this big, is the whole thing actually edible? If we’re only talking about the cake’s exterior decorations, then that’s a resounding yes! But as for the actual cake? Well, not exactly. “All the decorations on the cake, the flowers and trimmings were all handcrafted from sugar, meaning [they're] edible,” Aileen reveals. “The real cake [can be] found at the bottom of the cake ensemble. Because of its size and height, it cannot carry an all-edible cake on all its layers since the risk of it toppling down is high.”

That being said, if anything can match the wow-factor brought about by the sheer size of this dessert dream wedding cake, it would have to be the tedious amount of work needed in putting it all together.

According to Aileen, cooking and making by hand all the edible decorations alone, including the sugar flowers, took weeks and a team of five people. Moving the entire cake from their headquarters to the Solaire ballroom was no walk in the park, either. “We had to transport the cake [via three] airconditioned delivery vans, and put together all the decorations and cake layers on site,” the chef explains. Once at the venue, a total of six people then had to assemble the cake—with a ladder and all—to make sure it was picture perfect for the big day. Talk about dedication!
